Class Topic: Parent 2 Parent -
Parents have the most important, the most difficult and possibly the most complex job in the world. This job can last anywhere from zero to twenty years; in some cases a lifetime. There is no prior training, no pay, or out side help. Parents are rarely praised for their work, but are often criticized and blamed. Parents are often under valued, misunderstood and sometimes mistreated by our society.
This workshop teaches parents how to form cooperatives, and rely on each other until our society learns to value the work that parents do. Parents will be encouraged to form support groups where they can have a safe place to listen to each other and laugh, cry, rage and tantrum. The resources and tools explored in the workshop can also serve to interrupt some of the isolation and the feelings of over-whelm that parents constantly face.
Parents will be encouraged to set up "special time" classes for their children, so that they can have a safe place to play with other children and be in a supportive environment where genuine listening is encouraged. We will also explore with parents how to recruit and train allies and volunteers to assist them in getting revitalizing breaks from the parenting role without incurring feelings of guilt.
Ongoing small to large workshop.
